Melissa & Dave - Adventures at Sea

In Ketchikan July 4th starts on the 3rd

Dave needed to get some work done for Zetron and was frustrated by the slow internet speed, so he headed into town.  There was a small computer shop that used to have an internet café.  Despite the fact that the internet café was shutdown, they let him hook up anyway.  Gotta love small towns.  He then came back to the boat and fixed the forward macerator (that job he began the day the starter motor went out in Vancouver).  He needed another tool for this and was headed off to the store when Melissa mentioned that the hardware store was shut down for the 4th of July.  Apparently this town shuts down on the 3rd to get ready.  The 4th of July is a big holiday here.  They start early.  The fun had already started in the mall parking lot by noon today.

Liz from Joint Decision called.  They are back in Ketchikan on the dock next to us and wanted to treat us to dinner for rescuing them.  Totally unnecessary, but very nice of them.

A big rainstorm came through and it just poured rain.  Melissa was commenting that it was the hardest rain we have gotten on the boat to date, and about the time she got those words out, SPLASH!  Water comes down through the opening in the ceiling over the table where the mast comes through.  Dave took the lining around the mast apart, but it isn’t obvious how the water is getting through.  Will have to take a hose to it tomorrow to find the source of the leak.
