The next morning we got up early and made our way from Garden Bay all the way to Desolation Sound (the holy grail of boating in the Pacific Northwest). A long day, but it was pretty country the whole way, and we saw quite a number of dolphins. John tried fishing for salmon, but didn't have any luck. We also found that one of the markers for a reef had blown away in the storms. A bunch of seals marked the rock where the buoy used to be. We got into Refuge Cove around 4pm. We didn't like the way the anchorages looked in Refuge Cove, so we made our way over to Squirrel Cove.
While backing down on the anchor at Squirrel Cove, we managed to run over the dingy line and snap it in two - and got it wound around the prop. Dang! Dave reversed thrust and Melissa pulled the rope free. Dave was happy not to have to dive under the boat to unwind it!
When we were in Friday Harbor we had bought some chicken to use as crab bait. We had left it on the swim platform of the boat. 4 days later it stunk so bad that none of us were brave enough to open the plastic package. But what to do with it? There isn't any place to dump garbage near by. And we didn't dare pitch it over board wrapped in plastic. So John volunteered to put it in a plastic garbage sack and take it into the woods and loose under a tree or something. Yuck!
Breakfast was cottage cheese and pineapple. Dinner was hot dogs and mock potato salad (which no one liked!).
