Melissa & Dave - Adventures at Sea

500th Blog Post

This is the 500th blog post Melissa has written since the start of this venture.  Her first blog post was February 2013 when we had Apsaras inspected before purchase.  She has blogged 86% of the 562 days since we left the dock in May 2013.  At an average of 400 words per post, that's about 200,000 words written.  According to Amazon, the average length of a book is 64,000 words.  So that's about three books worth for those of you who've been reading every word.  Too bad Melissa doesn't have enough imagination to write fiction or she could have written a couple of best sellers instead and made enough money to retire permanently.  But do stay tuned as Melissa's first book, "Property Management Made Easy" is in the process of being published.  More on that in (yes you guessed it) another blog post later this week.

In the picture below you see two anchor rollers.  One of them goes on the very tip of the bow and allows the anchor chain to roll smoothly as it goes in and out.  The one on the right is the one Melissa installed back last August.  After 17 months, it has taken a lot of wear and tear because we've done a lot of anchoring.  But also because before we bought the boat, someone rammed the bow into something hard, and hence things are slightly bent.  Not so you would notice unless you knew to look for it.  But the result is that the roller won't actually roll because its wedged in too tight.  So the chain has been sliding over the roller rather than rolling on it - hence the uneven wear.  Fortunately we had a spare, so replacing it today was no problem.  Dave decided to see if he could slice a bit off the end of the new roller to make it slightly smaller in hopes of it rolling better and preventing the wear.  We shall see if his improvement reduces the wear or not in a few months.

We headed to the marina bar to split a burger for dinner.  The ocean swell is much calmer today so the waves rolling across the beach make the place look relatively mild.
